The new Dominos
Last night, Karen and I decided to have delivery pizza for dinner. Dominos recently improved their recipe and although I had tried it before, it was during one of our snowboarding trips in another state. Maybe it’s different from state to state?
We decided to order two 2-topping medium pizzas for $5.49 each. Karen decided on mushrooms and Philly Steak while I opted for my usual, pineapples and Italian sausage, with extra sauce.
The verdict? The sauce and the crust is indeed better. Maybe even better than Papa John’s now. The garlic encrusted crust was very tasty and the sauce actually tasted like it was made with real tomatoes. The Philly steak topping was mediocre at best and I barely noticed the mushrooms.
We each ate a few slices and decided to bring the rest for lunch. I’m not a huge fan of leftover pizza, but food shouldn’t be wasted.
Anyway, Dominos is noticeably better, but it went from just okay, to good. It could be even better with a better cheese and sauce ratio. The extra sauce I asked for was consistent with the cheese, but made the crust slightly soggier. Without the extra sauce, the cheese would be over powering. Like I said, I liked it slightly better than Papa John’s and I was never a fan of Pizza Hut.
Do you like delivery pizza? Tried the new Dominos yet? Thoughts?

but is it better than round table’s king arthur’s supreme with extra garlic?
I prefer thin-crust pizzas… like paper thin so I was never quite a fan of Dominos, Pizza Hut or Papa Johns although I wouldn’t mind eating them. Pizza is pizza afterall ;D
I never really like Dominos much, but after your review, I’d give it a try again. I like Papa John’s and if you say Dominos is better…I have to give it a try!
I’m fortunate enough to live in a place (Seattle) that has a plethora of good local handmade pizza choices (Pagliacci, Zeeks, Romios, Jet City, etc.). It’s been years since I’ve eaten pizza from any of the big national chains. Domino’s used to be awful (and I say that in spite of having been one of their drivers for awhile back in college- it was awful then, too.). I haven’t eaten it in at least 15 years. But I’m curious about their “facelift”. It’s not often that a big corporation says “our old product sucked; try us again” as blatantly as Domino’s has. It’s a hard case to make, and the nearest parallel I can think of is Detroit auto manufacturers, which don’t indicate a particularly encouraging precedent.
Anyway, thanks for the report. . .
@Ewithani - I completely understand what you’re saying. I mean, I’m from New York and the pizza in my neighborhood is GREAT! But I think it was more because I was curious as to how “good” this new change was for Dominos.
-ray leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
will make a note to try sometime
xanga, its the new yelp
my friends bought some dominoes for game 7 of the finals and i was munching on it mindlessly. it wasnt until i ate the crust until i noticed anything different about the pizza. id say the pizza itself not much diff but the crust a lil better.
i’m looking forward to ny pizza!
i agreed with you that domino tastes much better. personally, i don’t like fat breaded pizza because pizza chain stores tend to put less sauce, topping and stuff on top that are not proportional to the bread.
its not delivery, its digiorno
I had Dom’s at the beginning of their “new and improved’ stage. It was actually REALLY good. The garlic encrusted crust made it even better. I usually prefer Pizza Hut over Dom’s, but they did a pretty good job.
BTW… pineapple and italian sausage are my fave toppings too! Everyone always says “pineapples???”… but the sweet goes so well with the saltiness of the sausage.
I’m not a fan of store/pizzeria-bought pizza. I’m one of those Americans who doesn’t like pizza. Well, but I love homemade pizza. I cheat, though. I buy my dough from Trader Joe’s. I don’t want to plan a day in advance if I want to make pizza. I make my own bechamel sauce, boil up some chicken meat in a flavorful broth (gives it more flavor than boring chicken), slice up fresh mushrooms, mince fresh garlic. Slap all that on my Trader Joe’s dough. Cook it on my pizza stone. Omg. To die for–if I don’t say so myself. My sister took her first bite and asked me, “Wtf did you put in here? It’s sooooo good!” So yeah, that’s pizza at my house.
Sorry! Not my kind of game.
It still tastes like cardboard up in Canada lol
Dominos is officially my favorite (chain/fast food/delivery) pizza.
I’m not to into pizza but I like the new garlic crust pretty tasty
It honestly is NOTICEABLY better.
