  • Early morning workouts

For the first time in a long time, I decided to wake up and work out. Thirty minutes in, I remembered why I hadn’t done it in so long; I get nauseous when I work out on an empty stomach.

Running on the otherhand is no problem as long as I keep myself hydrated. It’s been an hour since I stopped and the nausea has subsided, but I still feel like crap. I already had my post-workout shake, but I still can’t shake off the weakness I feel, as if there’s an overdose of lactic acid build up in my muscles. This is going to be a long morning.

Do you ever work out in the morning? Am I the only one who feels like crap afterwards?

  • Well done for doing work outs. :) I feel so crap when I do work outs with an empty stomach too so I usually eat an hour beforehand. I usually eat bacon and egg. DAT BACON! I started to do workouts in the morning because I don’t have time to do it later in the day.

  • Your body needs to get use to it. it takes about 2 weeks.

  • I haaaaaaaaate working out first thing in the morning.  in fact, I hate doing ANYTHING first thing in the morning.

  • I tried early morning meditation, I usually just fall asleep

  • I hate working out at any point during the day.

  • Once I can force myself into the habit, I prefer working out in the mornings and I always feel great after. The only negative is that if I got less than five hours of sleep the night before, I’m usually sleepy around lunchtime.

  • @ichew1 - @supanamja - Yeah.  Going to try to get used to it.  I need to drop about 15lbs and get into peak shape for all the races and activities that I plan on doing this year.

I can’t really work out afterwork since I work late and by the time I get home, it’s like 9-11pm.

  • @jigg - I just realized what your profile pic is. Lol Kakashi.

  • @jigg - I dunno man, I just never looked. You still watch? Fucking Gai!

  • @supanamja - Yeah I still watch.  I’m up to date on the manga.  You read the manga?  CRAZYYYY.

  • @jigg - If I read the manga, the cartoon becomes too boring. I’ll probably go back and read the manga once the series is over. But fuck man, Hirudora! I watched that shit like five times.

  • @supanamja - No way man!  Reading the manga is one thing.  Watching the anime is another.  I do both and I enjoy both.  The fighting scenes are done really nicely in the anime.  A lot of it cannot be captured in the manga.  Battles like Sakara/Chiyo versus Sasori, Kakashi/Team 10 versus the Immortals, and Naruto versus Pain were EPIC and had to be watched animated.

  • @jigg - Hahaha knowing what’s going to happen in the anime bc of the plot points revealed in the manga just makes it less enjoyable for me. I love watching some of those fight scenes and being surprised by what happens… like Jiraya/Pain. Or Asuma/Hidan.

  • I usually do bikram in the mornings. At first, I couldn’t take it–probably due to the fact that I was still trying to wake up AND I was practicing on an empty tummy too, but I do think that it takes time to get used to it. On the days I miss bikram when I’m supposed to be there, I feel really out of the loop and weird.

  • i walk after work.  that is only the exercise i really do :P

  • I think this has to do how the type of exercise affects the neurochemicals in your brain.

Take gym workouts, for instance. Any high intensity level exercises (i.e. weight training, power lifting) that utilize more fast twitch muscle fibers than slow twitch muscle fibers generates very high levels of epinephrine and adrenaline levels, which are responsible for the “fight or flight” response. This is how we feel when we’re stressed or traumatized.

On the other hand, when we work on low to moderate intensity exercises, we recruit slow twitch muscle fibers to perform for a longer period of time. That’s why after long-distance running, there is a rise in serotonin, which is responsible for elevating our mood and feelings of satisfaction.

In general, I feel re-energized after a long run in the mornings. To avoid feeling sluggish after morning gym workouts, I alternate weight training with lower-intensity exercises and short jogs. It works wonders!

  • I actually enjoy working out in the morning before work, either hitting the gym or easy jogging on the streets. It’s hard to drag myself out of bed, but after the exercise and a nice shower I feel refreshed and rejuvenated for the rest of the day.

Also, it might have to do with the fact that I hate working out after work or at night.

  • I’ve only done it two times, and each time I just felt really good. My problem is making enough time to prepare everything I need for the day before I leave home and getting enough sleep the night before.

  • I don’t think one should have 100% empty stomach prior to workouts.  At least have a muffin or something just so your blood sugar won’t go haywire.
